Dyeing, Bleaching and Integrated Textile Processing Sector
"End-of-Pipe" pollution control system / Abatement Technologies
Textile manufacturing operations use different type of raw materials, chemicals and processes. Therefore, waste water treatment may require the use of unit operations specific to manufacturing processes in use. Techniques for treating industrial process waste water in this sector are source segregation and pretreatment of waste water streams. Treatment processes are as follows:
- High load COD streams containing non-biodegradable compounds using chemical oxidation
- Removal of heavy metals using chemical precipitation, coagulation and flocculation
- Treatment of highly coloured or high TDS streams using reverse osmosis.
Typical waste water treatment steps are : grease traps, skimmers, flow and load equalization, sedimentation of suspended solids using clarifier, aerobic treatment for reduction of soluble organic matter, secondary clarifier, dewatering and disposal of residual waste.
However, additional engineering controls may be required for advanced metals removal using membrane filtration, removal of residual pesticides or halogenated organics using activated carbon or advanced chemical oxidation, residual colour removal using adsorption or chemical oxidation, reduction of TDS in the effluent using reverse osmosis or evaporation.
